Overview
Baya Ceramics is a small-batch ceramics studio known for its handcrafted pieces, earthy glazes, and minimalist forms. With growing demand and a loyal following on Instagram, Baya needed a full eCommerce presence that would reflect the beauty of its work — and make it easy for customers to browse, connect, and purchase online.
The Challenge
The studio’s online experience was previously limited to a static site with no direct checkout or structured catalog. Baya needed a clean, intuitive eCommerce platform that could support new product drops, storytelling, and seamless customer interaction — while maintaining the handcrafted, high-touch feel that defines the brand.
My Role
I was brought on to lead the design and rollout of the new eCommerce website, as well as handle visual content production. My work included:
eCommerce strategy and UX planning
Shopify theme customization and styling
Art direction and execution of product photography
Design of collection pages, product detail pages, and checkout flow
Content development (about, process, story)
Creation of a reusable system for seasonal shop updates and product launches
Design Approach
The design language focused on warm minimalism — soft backgrounds, serif typography, and generous white space allowed the ceramics to shine. Navigation was simplified to focus on user flow: browsing, adding to cart, and checking out with minimal friction.
Photography played a key role: every product was shot in natural light to highlight texture, glaze variation, and form. In-use images (styled table scenes, hands holding bowls, etc.) added lifestyle context and elevated the perception of craft and care.
The result was a seamless blend of commerce and storytelling — built for conversions without sacrificing aesthetic integrity.

Online shop launch sold out two of the main collections in under 48 hours
Increased average order value by 31% thanks to upsell-friendly product layout
Bounce rate decreased by 40% compared to previous static site
