Overview

Aurora Music Festival is an annual celebration of sound, light, and creative energy, set against the dramatic landscapes of Iceland. The team behind Aurora approached me to develop a full visual identity and event design system that would capture the magic of both the music and the environment — modern, bold, and immersive.

The Challenge

The festival wanted to move beyond generic “indie fest” visuals and build a brand that felt uniquely its own: atmospheric, futuristic, and emotionally charged — something that could visually represent the feeling of standing under the northern lights while listening to a live set.

My Role

  • I led creative direction, branding, and visual rollout across digital and physical touchpoints, including:

  • Logo and typography system

  • Poster and flyer designs for local/international promotion

  • Wristbands, signage, and on-site wayfinding

  • Social media countdowns and launch graphics

  • Stage visuals (motion graphics + static designs)

  • Artist announcement templates

Visual Style

The brand was built around ethereal gradients, kinetic typography, and modular grid systems that could adapt to both print and screen. We used bold contrasts — neon overlays against dark backdrops — to mimic the surreal light conditions of the Icelandic night sky. Typography was clean, futuristic, and dynamic, allowing room for creative motion across screens and installations.

Results

  • Sold out 10,000 tickets in the first month of launch

  • Instagram following grew by 4,500+ during campaign period

  • Festival brand featured on 12 international design blogs

  • Increased sponsor engagement with custom branded decks

  • Positive feedback from attendees on visual clarity and signage experience

  • On-site visuals helped establish Aurora as a “design-first” music experience
