Introduction

Studio Folia is a multidisciplinary design studio known for its handcrafted ceramics, interior styling, and creative collaborations. As the studio grew beyond its original niche, the founder approached me to reimagine the brand — something that felt more aligned with its evolving voice, audience, and aspirations.

This case study breaks down how we approached the rebrand: from strategy and visual direction to final identity design — and the results it helped unlock.

Project Overview

  • Client: Studio Folia

  • Scope: Brand Strategy, Visual Identity, Creative Direction

  • Timeline: 8 weeks

  • Deliverables: Logo system, color palette, typography, brand guide, print collateral, social templates

1. Understanding the Shift

Studio Folia had grown. What began as a ceramics practice had expanded into interior styling, creative partnerships, and limited-edition product lines.

But the old brand — neutral, minimalist, a bit too understated — didn’t reflect this creative evolution. It needed more soul, more sophistication, and more room to grow.

What the rebrand needed to do:

  • Retain the warmth and elegance of handcrafted work

  • Introduce more editorial and expressive visual energy

  • Expand brand flexibility across products, services, and platforms

  • Feel timeless — but contemporary

2. Strategic Foundation

Before touching visuals, we revisited the core of the brand. Through interviews and workshops, we defined key pillars:

  • Voice: Understated, poetic, confident

  • Audience: Design-conscious consumers, collaborators, and curators

  • Values: Craft, intentionality, texture, emotional connection

  • Keywords: Soft strength, form & function, elevated earthiness

This strategy guided every visual and verbal decision moving forward.

3. Visual Direction & Design Approach

✦ Logo

The new wordmark uses a custom serif with soft ligatures and considered rhythm — nodding to both editorial elegance and handmade detail. We also developed a monogram for smaller use cases (embossing, tags, icons).

✦ Color

We moved away from stark neutrals to a warm, muted palette: bone white, slate, moss, and clay. These tones reflect natural materials and help visuals feel grounded and lived-in.

✦ Typography

A pairing of a refined serif for headlines and a modern grotesque for body text created a blend of structure and softness — much like Studio Folia’s work itself.

✦ Supporting Elements

We added textures, subtle grain overlays, and slow-scroll motion principles to support an editorial-meets-artisan brand experience.

4. Application & Brand System

The new identity was applied across:

  • Business cards and thank-you notes

  • Social templates and story backgrounds

  • Packaging labels and wrapping paper

  • Email header design and announcement templates

  • Web mockups and typography system for future site updates

We also delivered a comprehensive brand guide — giving the team clear, flexible tools to carry the brand forward.

5. Results & Impact

  • A consistent brand language across digital and physical touchpoints

  • Immediate positive feedback from collaborators and customers

  • Increased brand engagement on Instagram and newsletter opens

  • Stronger positioning in the design and interior space

  • A visual system ready to scale into new product lines and partnerships

Client quote:

“It finally feels like us. Like what we’re becoming — not just what we were.”

Conclusion

The Studio Folia rebrand is a perfect example of how thoughtful design can elevate a brand’s story without losing its soul. It’s not about looking trendy — it’s about expressing identity with clarity, depth, and emotion.

If your brand is evolving and your visuals haven’t caught up yet — it might be time to reimagine things, too.
